Jigra director Vasan Bala deletes Twitter account after film’s box office failure

Director Vasan Bala, whose latest film, Jigra, didn’t impress the audience at the box office, seems to have deleted his Twitter (X) account. The filmmaker was sharing posts and replying to comments until a day earlier. However, his responses now turn up as blank boxes with ‘This post is from an account that no longer exists’ written instead.
Vasan has been defending the performance of the Alia Bhatt-starrer after several trolls targetted him for glorifying it. During his latest interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director also said that he doesn’t think of box office as the parameter of a film’s success. However, his statement wasn’t received well, and many social media users called him ‘arrogant’ for not acknowledging the audience’s verdict.
A section of the audience also questioned how Vasan became the face of the film after its box office failure, while Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina were actively promoting it before the release.

The film clashed with Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, at the box office. While the Raaj Shandilyaa directorial also didn’t show a winning traction at the ticket window, it managed to perform better than Jigra.
The film, which was backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, collected Rs 25.35 crore nett in nine days in India. Jigra featured Alia in the role of a protective elder sister, who helps break her brother, played by Vedang, from a foreign prison. The film was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 80 crore, and it doesn’t seem possible for it to now break-even at the box office.
